Men's Lacrosse Makes History in Win over Elmira

Elmira, NY -- The Utica College men's lacrosse team beat Empire 8 opponent Elmira on the road Saturday, 20-7. This win earns the Pioneers the first ever 10-win season in program history. 

Utica took control of the contest early by taking a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Elmira scored early in the second quarter, but the Pioneers answered back with seven consecutive goals to make the score 11-1 at halftime. UC continued to hold its lead throughout the second half, outscoring Elmira 9-6 in the second half to earn the 13 goal victory.

The Pioneers were led by Dominic Castiglia (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) as he scored six goals in the game. Jake Bratek (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) finished the game with six points on three goals and three assists. Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) scored three goals in the contest, while Nick Yelich (Lancaster, NY/Depew) made three assists. Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski) registered three points on two goals and one assists, as John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) tallied two assists of his own. Parker Smith (Dexter, NY/General Brown) earned the win in goal for the Pioneers, making six saves in 35 minutes played.

Elmira's Wyatt Katsos scored a team-high three goals, while Nevin Olney added two goals and one assist. Anthony LaRusso tallied one goal and one assist, as Colby Runk netted one goal of his own. Goalkeeper Cameron Prior recorded 26 saves in the loss.

This game marks the final game of the 2017 season for the Pioneers. UC finished the year 10-6 overall (4-4 E8), recording the most wins in a single season in program history.
