Women's Lacrosse Finishes Season with Win over Hartwick

Oneonta, NY - The Utica College women's lacrosse team beat conference opponent Hartwick on the road, by a score of 13-12 in the last game of the 2017 season.

Senior Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) finished with four points on two goals and two assists. With her stats on the day, she moved into third all-time in career goals with 147. Plunkett also moved into third place all-time with 167 career points.

The game was tied at halftime, 5-5, as the teams went back and forth in a competitive first half. Hartwick scored to open up the first half, but the Pioneers answered back with five consecutive goals to take a 10-6 lead with 19:26 left in the game. With 10:51 left to play the Hawks scored to tie the game up, 11-11. Hailee Dumont and Tewasherake Barnes both scored for Utica down the stretch to help secure the one goal win. 

Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored a career-high five goals in the game to go along with her one assist. Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) registered one goal and one assist, while Tewasherake Barnes (Akwesasne, NY/Salmon River) netted two goals. Emily Holtshouser (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) and Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) combined for four saves in the contest, as Vandermeulen received the win in net. 

Hartwick was led by Lauren Rosenberg, as she finished with eight points on five goals and three assists. Ashley Werner recorded two goals and two assists, while Jennifer Darasz tallied three goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Carleigh Tarala made 11 saves for the Hawks in the loss. 

The Pioneers end the regular season on a good note with the win on the road. They finish with a record of 7-7 overall and 4-4 in Empire 8 competition.
