Pittsford, NY -- The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team swept Utica College in both singles and doubles play on Friday in an Empire 8 matchup at the Mendon Racquet Club. With the 9-0 loss, Utica's record moved to 1-1 on the year and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers in E8 action.
Fisher's Jacob Zarzycki and Adam Moran teamed up at first doubles, defeating Utica's
Christopher Dunn (Schenectady, NY) and
Paul Litvak (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) by a close score of 8-6. In the second flight was Fisher's Jonathan Harper and partner Dustin McCullough who won in straight sets, 8-0, against Utica's
Garrett Noake (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and
Luc Boby (Chicago, IL/Kalamazoo (NAHL)). Also winning in straight sets was Fisher's third doubles team of Stephan McCann and Jarrett Pelton, who won against Utica's Ani Fitpatrick and
Alfonzo Whitehurst (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville), 8-0.
In singles play, John Miller faced the Pioneers
Christopher Dunn (Schenectady, NY), winning 6-0, 6-1. Zarzycki played in the second flight, winning a tiebreaker match, 6-1, 1-6, 10-7 against Utica's
Garrett Noake (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle). McCullough won at third singles 6-0, 6-2, against
Luc Boby (Chicago, IL/Kalamazoo (NAHL)) while in the fourth spot was Moran, who beat his opponent 6-0, 6-3.
