OSWEGO, NY- The Utica College volleyball team went 1-1 on day two at the Oswego Tournament as it fell to Oswego 3-2 before bouncing back to knock off Bard College 3-1. The Pioneers wrap up the weekend with a 2-1 record at the tournament.
Utica 2, Oswego 3- Game One Final
The teams traded sets to force a fifth and deciding set, but the home team went on a 6-1 run and went on to win set five 15-10. Junior
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the Utica offense with 10 kills and she also added two aces to pace the Pioneers. Classmate
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was right behind Voss with nine kills in the game and she also added four blocks.
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) tallied a team-best 15 assists, while
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) and Meaghan Romaquera combined for seven assists. Defensively, senior
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led the squad with 17 digs. Voss and Faroni totaled 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

Despite dropping the first set 25-15, the Pioneers rallied two take the next three sets to come away with the victory. This time, it was
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) who led the attack with nine kills, while Morgan Fletcher (five) and
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) (four) finished second and third on the squad in kills.
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) aided the offense with 12 assists.
Voss and
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) each had two service aces, and the duo also led UC in digs. Mosenthin registered 12 digs, while Voss had nine and
Morgan Farmer (Saranac Lake, NY/Saranac Lake) chipped in with six digs. Herringshaw was also a force at the net for the defense as she tallied a game-high five blocks.
Voss and
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts on the weekend.
The Pioneers return home on Wednesday as they open up Empire 8 Conference play against Hartwick College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
