UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team returns home Wednesday evening to host Hartwick College in the Pioneers' 2017 Empire 8 Conference opener. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 2-1 showing at the Oswego Tournament last weekend… UC topped Hilbert College 3-0 and Bard 3-1, but dropped a five-set heartbreaker to host Oswego State… Juniors
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) combined for 14 kills in the win over Hilbert… Herringshaw also led the offense with nine kills in the win over Bard and she totaled 12 blocks on the weekend…
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had 30 digs over the three matches, while
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) recorded a team-high 39 assists… Voss and
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts on the weekend.
LEADING THE WAY: Junior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) leads the team with 84 kills so far… She also ranks second in the conference with 41 total blocks and an average of 1.00 per set…
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) has a team-high 132 digs and 19 service aces… She is also second on the squad with 67 kills…
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) has collected a team-leading and career-high 153 assists.
SCOUTING HARTWICK: The Hawks are 5-7 overall and they are coming off a 3-1 win over Penn State- Abington on Saturday… Senior Rosa Maun leads the team with 80 kills and 17 blocks… Freshman Maria Sorriento has a team-best 24 aces and she is second on the Hawks with 71 kills.
AGAINST THE HAWKS: Utica is 0-5 against Hartwick in the last five years… Last year, Utica jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Hawks battled back to take the final three sets…
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had six kills, 23 digs and two aces, while
Monique Fletcher (Waterford, CT/Norwich Free Academy) tallied five kills, four assists and two service aces.
