UTICA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team remains on the road Saturday as it travels to St. John Fisher College.  Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday as they fell to host Hartwick College 2-1 in overtime… Freshman Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) scored her first career goal in the loss, while Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) and Carly Tebolt (Wappingers, NY/Roy C Ketcham) combined for 14 saves in the game.
 
LEADING THE WAY: Junior Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) leads the team with five goals and 12 points so far… Meelan has eight points in her last four games… Freshman Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) is right behind her with four goals and ten points… Whitehouse also has two game-winning goals. 
 
FINISHING STRONG: The Pioneers have proven to be a second-half team so far this season… UC has scored just three goals in the first half (while allowing five), but the Pioneers have totaled 13 goals in the second half of play (while giving up eight) and they have one overtime tally to their credit. 
 
HELPING OUT: Senior Melissa Koch (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) and sophomore Joanna Gaertner (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) each have six points on the year… Koch has two goals and two assists, while Gaertner has scored three goals… Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) has one goal and one assist, and Jessica Belt (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Madison Williams (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent), and Jenny Robbins (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) have each tallied at least one point.
 
SCOUTING FISHER: St. John Fisher, the defending Empire 8 Conference champions, are 5-1 overall (2-0 Empire 8) and they are coming off a 5-0 win over Houghton on Wednesday… After dropping their first game of the season, a 2-1 overtime loss to No. 11 Skidmore, the Cardinals have responded to win five in a row… Fisher is led by senior Emily Markarian, who leads the conference in goals (eight) and points (17).
 
AGAINST THE CARDINALS: Utica is 7-2 all-time against Fisher, but the Cardinals have had the upper hand the last two years… Last season, UC fell 1-0… Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) made 17 saves on the day, while Jordan Noga (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and Madison Babicz (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) each had one defensive save.
