UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team earned a split in its tri-match Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers fell to Morrisville State 3-0 before rebounding to knock off Southern Vermont 3-1.
 
Utica 0, Morrisville 3- Game One Final
Trailing two sets to zero, the Pioneers began to mount a comeback in the third set as they took a 10-8 lead, but Morrisville responded to score 11 of the next 13 points to regain control of the game.  The Mustangs were very impressive at the service line as they totaled 14 service aces on the day, compared to Utica's two aces.
 
Junior 
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led Utica with eight kills, while 
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and 
Lindsey Hannel (Victor, NY/Victor) each totaled four kills in the game.  
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) aided the offense with seven assists, while 
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) chipped in with six assists of her own.
 
Defensively, 
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had 12 digs, and Macheda and 
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) combined for 13 digs.  Herringshaw and Stockbridge each recorded one block.
 
Utica 3, Southern Vermont 1- Game Two Final
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the first set 25-14.  The Mountaineers battled back in the second set to earn a 25-20 victory to even the score at one set apiece.
 
This time it was 
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and 
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) who led the attack with eight kills each, while 
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was right behind them with seven kills of her own.  Voss also had a team-high four service aces, while 
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) and 
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) combined for three aces. 
Jessica Macheda (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) led the squad with 16 assists, while 
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) chipped in with 12 assists to her credit.
 
Defensively, Mosenthin led the way with 17 digs, followed by Voss (14) and Romaguera (12).  Herringshaw picked up a game-high five blocks. 
 
The Pioneers return to action Monday as they host Cazanovia College.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
