UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team returns home Thursday night as it welcomes SUNY Cobleskill for the Pioneers 2017 home opener. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
WEEKEND RECAP: The Pioneers fell in their season opening tournament of play last weekend at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic… UC fell to Lebanon Valley 3-0 and Fredonia 3-1 on Friday, before dropping a pair of 3-0 games to Stockton and SUNY Cortland on Saturday.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Pioneers are once again led by the junior duo of
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse)… After the first weekend of play, Voss leads the team with 25 kills, 45 digs, and four service aces, while Herringshaw has a team-best six blocks… Herringshaw is also right behind Voss with 22 kills on the year.
HELPING OUT: Junior
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a team-best 55 assists and she is tied with senior
Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) for second of the squad with 24 digs.
SCOUTING COBLESKILL: The Fighting Tigers are 3-1 overall after competing in the Blazer Invitational last weekend… Most recently, Cobleskill defeated Green Mountain College 3-0 on Monday… Karyn Knaul leads the team with 25 kills anfdfour blocks, while Dani Webb has a team-high 56 digs.
AGAINST THE FIGHTING TIGERS: Utica is 9-1 all-time against Cobleskill… Last year the Pioneers earned a pair of 3-0 wins against the Fighting Tigers… The last time Cobleskill defeated Utica was a 3-1 victory on Oct. 8, 2013.
LOOKING AHEAD: UC returns to the court this weekend as it travels to the Rochester for the U of R Invitational… The action kicks off Friday against the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at 6 p.m.
