Women's Hoops Hosts Two E8 Contests

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team will host Hartwick on Thursday and Elmira on Saturday, for some Empire 8 Conference action. Thursday's contest will begin at 8 p.m., while Saturday's game tips-off at 4 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers are coming off of a big win on the road against Stevens. UC defeated the Ducks 48-39, improving to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in E8 play. Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) led the way with 13 points and nine rebounds, as Utica earned its first win over Stevens since 2012. Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) scored 12 points, while Briannah Florian (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) contributed 11 rebounds in the contest.

Impressive Finish: In UC's win over Stevens, the team closed the game out with a great defensive performance down the stretch. With 5:42 remaining in the game, the Ducks scored to cut Utica's lead down to just one point, with the score reading 40-39. This would be the last basket of the game for Stevens, as the Pioneers did not allow a single point the rest of the game.
