Utica, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team closes out its three-game home stand on Tuesday, as it hosts Sage. This Empire 8 contest is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Last Time Out: UC defeated Elmira in its last contest, winning at home by a score of 62-53.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) posted a career-high 12 points to go with three boards and three assists.
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Briannah Florian (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) poured in 10 points.
Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) earned a stat line of 11 points, eight boards and five assists. The Pioneers improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in Empire 8 play after the win.
Gaining Confidence: Freshman guard,
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) has settled into her role on the offensive end and has been much more effective as of late. In the first 10 games of the season, Johndrow was averaging just 2.9 points per game. However, she seems to have figured it out as she is averaging nine points per game over the last three contests. During this three-game stretch, Brigid has shot 66.7% from beyond the 3-point arc and 90% from the charity stripe. Johndrow will look to keep up this hot streak against Sage, after her career-high scoring performance against Elmira.
Statistical Leaders: Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) and
Ashelyne Babb (Lynn, MA/Winthrop) lead the UC offense as they average 14.1 and 12.8 points per game, respectively. Mayo is currently seventh in the Empire 8 in scoring, while Babb is tenth. Babb's 3.5 assists per game leads the team, and is sixth best in the conference.
Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) is ranked sixth in the E8, averaging 7.4 boards per game.
Conference Standings: Early on into conference play, UC is sitting in seventh place with its record of 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the E8. After missing out on the Empire 8 Tournament last season, the Pioneers have some work to do to earn a top-four spot in the conference. The team will have an opportunity Tuesday to take down Sage, who is currently the number one team in the E8.
Scouting Sage: The Gators boast a 9-3 overall record to go with an undefeated 3-0 mark within the E8. Currently on a five-game winning streak, the team recently defeated Stevens, 66-55. Emily Parslow scored a game-high 17 points, shooting 4-for-12 from behind the 3-point arc. Kaitlyn Bowman finished with a double-double, on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Parslow and Genevieve Schoff are both averaging 13.3 points per game to lead the team. Parslow's 4.5 assists per game is tops for the Gators and is second in the conference. Schoff is also the top rebounder on the squad, hauling in an average of 8.3 boards per game.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers start a four-game road trip, as they travel to Houghton on Friday for their next contest. This Empire 8 matchup will tip-off at 8 p.m.
