Alfred, NY – The Utica College men's basketball team lost to Alfred University on the road Saturday, 78-54, snapping a four-game win streak. The Pioneers drop to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in E8 competition.
The two teams traded buckets early on, as the score was tied at 12-12 with 11:58 on the clock in the first half. The Saxons went on an 11-0 run in the span of 3:40 to take a 33-23 lead with just 2:30 remaining before halftime. A 3-point basket by Alfred stretched the team's lead to 11 points, heading into the mid-game break.
Alfred came out strong in the second, quickly increasing its lead to 51-29 in the first four minutes. Utica would trail by as many as 26 points in the second half of play. The Saxons would cruise down the stretch to earn the 24-point win.
Hunter Remley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) led Utica with 14 points, making 3-for-7 of his shots from beyond the 3-point arc.
Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the contest.
Kobe Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) shot 3-for-3 from 3-point territory, tallying nine points in the game.
The Saxons benefitted from a balanced offensive attack, as five players reached double-digits. Sage Brown led the way with 13 points and 13 rebounds, recording the double-double. Sam Dagon also scored 13 points, while Nick Schmidt added 11 points on 3-for-6 from long range. Dalton Cousin came away with 10 points and seven boards, as teammate Dom LeMorta poured in 10 points. Alfred improves to 13-4 overall on the season, and become 6-2 against Empire 8 opponents.
The Pioneers return to action on January 26th, as they travel to Nazareth College. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
