Mayo Joins 1,000-Point Club in Loss to Fisher

Rochester, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team fell to St. John Fisher, 59-35, on Friday as the team's record drops to 7-11 overall and 3-6 in E8 play. Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) finished with seven points for UC, surpassing 1,000 total points for her career.
 
After some early back-and-forth action, a pair of free throws from Nicole Robinson gave Fisher a 6-5 lead in the first quarter. The Cardinals would score five quick points in just 53 seconds, helping them hold a 13-8 lead going into the second. Mayo kept the game close as she converted a 3-point play, before Fisher scored 10 unanswered points to take a 26-13 lead with 2:33 left until halftime. The Pioneers entered the locker room trailing by 13 points, at the half.
 
St. John Fisher controlled the game early on in the third quarter, leading 35-18 with 6:20 on the clock. Just before the six-minute mark in the third, Ashley Mayo (Bronx, NY/Nanuet) finished a layup in the paint and broke the 1,000-point mark for her career. UC headed into the final period of play facing a 19-point deficit. The Pioneers were unable to mount a comeback, as the Cardinals cruised to a win.
 
Utica's top scorer was Alaina Tripp (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah), who finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Tripp shot a solid 7-for-9 at the free throw line. Mayo added seven points, while Maggie Tabone (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) snagged seven boards off the bench.
 
Fisher had three double-digit scorers, led by Nicole Robinson's 11 points and four blocks. Erin Hulbert recorded 10 points and eight rebounds, while Alex Reigle posted nine points and nine rebounds. Liga Kalnina snagged a game-high 14 boards in the win. The Cardinals move to 14-5 overall and 9-1 against Empire 8 opponents this year.
 
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, as they play Nazareth at home. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m.
