Women's Hockey Downs Salem State in Non-Conference Play

SALEM, MA- The Utica College women's hockey team used two goals in 4:24, both off the stick of senior Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), to down host Salem State 3-2 in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

With the win, Utica improves to 9-9-1 on the year.  The Pioneers will try to build off their momentum as they travel to UCHC foe Manhattanville College for a pair of games this weekend.  Friday's puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. while Saturday's game will begin at 3 p.m.

The Vikings opened the scoring at 2:26 of the first period as Danielle Kelley put in an unassisted tally for her third of the year.

Utica was finally able to get on the board at 14:46 of the second stanza when senior Kelly Critzer (West Salem, OH/Ohio Flames) found the back of the net for her first of the year, assisted by Osowski.  The home team regained the one-goal lead less than three minutes later as Kellyann Goode beat Utica goalie Ryann Stripp (Holland Patent, NY/Clinton Warriors) for her fourth of the season.

The third period was all Utica as the Pioneers outshot Salem State 7-2 in the first 18 minutes of the third period.  UC was finally rewarded at the 9:24 mark of the third as Osowski slipped in a loose puck just inside the right post for her fourth of the year.  Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School) was credited with an assist on the equalizer.  Utica struck again at 13:48 when Osowski buried a centering feed from Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) off the crossbar and in to give the Pioneers their first lead of the game.

UC was called for two penalties in the final 1:36 of play and the Vikings pulled their goalie to add an extra attacker.  Salem State was able to get three shots off, but Stripp turned them aside as Utica was able to hold on for the victory.

Stripp finished with 13 saves to pick up her first career win, while Isabelle Woodward made 20 saves in the loss.
