#8 Adrian Rallies to Defeat #10 Utica 2-1

ADRIAN, MI – The nationally-ranked No. 10 Utica College men's hockey team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second period but could not hold on as host and nationally-ranked No. 8 Adrian College scored two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 victory on Saturday night.

Utica snapped a seven game winning streak and saw its record move to 10-3 overall on the year. Adrian, an NCAA Tournament semifinalist a year ago, improved to 11-4 on the season.

Utica senior forward Roman Ammirato (Williamstown, NJ/Union College (ECAC)) gave the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage at the 14:06 marker of the second period on the power-play when he netted his team-best 11th goal of the season.  Senior classmates Brett Szajner (Novi, MI/Amarillo (NAHL)) and Mikhail Bushinski (St. Paul, MN/Kenai River (NAHL)) assisted on the Pioneers lone goal of the contest.

The Bulldogs answered and knotted the score at 1-1 just 2:12 later when Bryan Yim scored his fifth of the season to tie the game with 3:42 to go in the second period of play.

Adrian's Matthew Thompson scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 8:17 marker of the third period to hand the home team a one goal victory. Taylor McCloy and Kyle Brothers were each credited with an assist on Adrian's game-winner.

Utica sophomore goalie Patrik Virtanen (Vantaa, Finland/Lincoln (USHL)) stopped 39 shots on the evening, while Kevin Entmaa made 33 saves and saw his record improve to 6-2 on the season.

Adrian outshot UC 41-34 on the night and each team netted a power-play tally.

Utica will travel about an hour Northeast to Plymouth, Michigan on Sunday to take on the U.S. National Under-18 Team in an exhibition game at the USA Hockey Arena (2:05 p.m.). The last time these two teams met was back in 2013 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium when UC knocked off the U18's, 4-1.
