Utica, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team is home Tuesday for a non-conference bout with Morrisville State College. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers dropped to 4-9-1 overall and 1-4 in Empire 8 play, after losing 2-1 on the road to Elmira.
Nicolas Diaz (Commack, NY/Commack) recorded the lone UC goal in the match, for his second score of his senior year.
Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) was credited with the assist, giving him a team-high four assists. Utica outshot Elmira, 14-11, and drew six more corner kick opportunities than the Soaring Eagles in the loss. Sophomore goalkeeper
Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) came up with three stops in net.
Goals at Gaetano: UC has proven to be more comfortable playing in their home atmosphere at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium this season. Of the 12 total goals the team has scored, nine of the scores were recorded at home. The home goals have transferred over to home wins, as the Pioneers have earned three of their four wins at Gaetano Stadium.
Final Home Stand: With the regular season winding down, Utica is preparing for its final stint of home games for the 2018 season. The team will host Morrisville on Tuesday, before playing its last home match of the year against Houghton on Saturday for some E8 competition. Following the two-game home stand UC will close out the fall with two consecutive away games against Hobart (Oct. 24
th) and Stevens (Oct. 27
th).
Scouting Morrisville: The Mustangs are currently 6-5-1 overall and 5-2 in NEAC competition. The team most recently fell, 2-0, to the Wildcats from Penn College. Teo Chavez is the top goal scorer for Morrisville with three goals so far this season. Daniel Agboba and Moe Win are tied for the team lead with two assists each. Cody Welkley is the top goalkeeper on the squad, registering 36 saves and one shutout for the year.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers are home for the last time this season on Saturday, as they host Houghton College for an E8 matchup. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
