UTICA, NY – The Utica College volleyball team will return home on Wednesday to face St. John Fisher College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup. The game time is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers are currently 3-11 (1-1 Empire 8) this season. They are coming off a 3-1 (10-25, 21-25, 25-23, 19-25) loss against SUNY Poly last Friday. Senior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with 15 kills, followed by
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) with 22 assists and
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) with 15 digs.
Offensive End: Herringshaw is leading the Pioneers with 137 kills. Behind her is sophomore
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) who currently has 67 kills this season. Faroni is currently the Pioneers' assist leader with 140, followed by freshman
Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) with 83.
Defensive End: UC has three players with more than 100 digs this season. Voss currently leads the team with 166, followed by Faroni (122) and Romaguera (113). Herringshaw is leading the team with 33 blocks and senior
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) is second with 19 this season.
Scouting St. John Fisher: The Cardinals are 10-9 (2-1 Empire 8) this season. They are coming off a 3-0 win over Plattsburgh State last Saturday. Alea Steigerwald is leading Fisher and the Empire 8 Conference with 269 kills this season. Rebecca Hay is ranked second in the Empire 8 in assists (474) and Elise Kreuz is ranked second for most digs (333) as well.
Against St. John Fisher: The Pioneers are 1-5 against the Cardinals in the last five years. Their last meeting was last season when UC lost 3-0 against St. John Fisher. Herringshaw led UC with seven kills and two blocks, and Faroni had nine assists in the game. The last time the Pioneers beat the Cardinals was back in 2015.
Looking Ahead: UC will head to Hoboken, NJ to face Houghton College (1:30 p.m.) and Stevens (4 p.m.) in an Empire 8 Conference matchup this Saturday.
