Women's Soccer Lands Key Shutout Win Over Hartwick

Oneonta, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team was on the road Saturday for a big Empire 8 contest against Hartwick. UC took down the Hawks, 2-0, winning its fourth match in a row.

Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) scored in her fourth straight game, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead just 11:20 into the contest. Although Hartwick outshot Utica 10-4 in the first half, Blumenstock's 11th score of the season provided the team with a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the 64th minute of regulation UC's Carly Craft (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) scored her first of the season to give the team a two goal cushion in the second half. The Pioneers would hold on without surrendering a goal to earn the 2-0 win over the Hawks.

Goalkeeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) returned to the starting lineup for the match, finishing with eight saves and her third shutout win of her junior campaign. UC improves to 9-5-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Empire 8 competition, sliding into second place in the conference.

The Pioneers look to make it five in a row when they host St. John Fisher on Wednesday for another E8 matchup. The final home game of the regular season is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m.
