Hobart Erases Utica's Early Lead to Earn 3-1 Victory

GENEVA, NY – Utica's Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) got the Pioneers on the board in the 15thminute with a rocket from 20 yards out into the upper right corner, but host Hobart rallied with three unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 victory in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Cozzens Field.

Utica closes out its 2018 campaign on Saturday when the Pioneers travel to first place Stevens Institute of Technology for an Empire 8 Conference matchup in Hoboken, NJ at 11 a.m.

Kyle Mangold headed home the equalizer for the host Statesmen just 2:31 after Muller's opening goal. Mangold's fourth goal of the season beat UC goalie Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) to knot the score at 1-1. Pete Critchlow was credited with an assist on the first Hobart goal. Miksch finished the evening with nine saves in goal for the Pioneers.

The contest remained all-square at 1-1 until the 73rd minute when August Martini scored his first of the year following a free kick to put the home team on top 2-1.  Hobart sealed the victory with a goal from Benn Orr at 83:58, assisted by Jack Bizub.

Hobart goalie Brian Salazar made two stops in the victory.

Muller now ranks second on the team with eight points on two goals and a team-best four assists this season. He sits two points behind Utica leading scorer Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton), who has four goals and two assists for ten points through 17 games. Fonseca, who has 31 career points (eight goals, 15 assists), needs just one point in his final game to crack the top 10 on the College's all-time scoring list.  His 15 career assists are tied for third on the career list at UC.

Utica's record moved to 5-11-1 overall and 1-5 in Empire 8 action. Hobart improved to 7-6-2 overall.
