Volleyball Falls at Naz

ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to host Nazareth College in Empire 8 Conference action Wednesday evening.

Utica held its own against the Golden Flyers, who are currently second in the E8 standings.  This marked the first time UC has taken a set from Nazareth since 2008.  The Pioneers will wrap up the season on Saturday as they travel to nearby Hamilton College.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

After falling 25-23 in the first set, the Pioneers battled back to take set two by the score of 25-21.  Naz turned up the pressure in set three, however, as it jumped out to an 8-2 lead and went on to win 25-11.  The home team capped off the match with a 25-15 win in set four.

Senior Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Utica offense with 15 kills, marking her sixth straight outing with over 10 kills.  Sophomore Megan Rice (Leverett, MA/Amherst Regional) had eight kills, while classmate Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) had seven kills.  Senior Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and freshman Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) chipped in offensively with 15 assists each.

On the defense, senior Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the way with 13 digs, while Herringshaw totaled a team-high two blocks.
