UTICA, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 6/7 Utica College men's hockey team rallied from a 3-0 deficit, but the Pioneer comeback fell just short, as visiting and nationally-ranked No. 3/3 Adrian College earned a 3-2 victory at the Adirondack Bank Center on Saturday night.
Trailing 3-0 in the second period, the Pioneers (0-2) got on the board with a beautiful goal from senior captain
Gregg Burmaster (Clinton, NY/Colorado College (NCHC)) into the top right corner.
Brett Everson (Mississauga, Ontario/Hawkesbury (CCHL)) and
Conor Landrigan (New Tripoli, PA/Binghamton Jr. Sens (NAHL)) were each credited with an assist to make the score 3-1 in favor of the visitors with 4:55 to go in the second period.
Landrigan, the reigning UCHC Rookie of the Year, picked up his second point of the evening when he scored just eight seconds into the third period to make it a one goal game.
Brett Everson (Mississauga, Ontario/Hawkesbury (CCHL)) and
Daniel Fritz (Harwood, MD/Canisius College (Atlantic Hockey)) set up a streaking Landrigan off the opening face-off of the final period.
Adrian was able to fend off the Pioneers' late charge to earn the one goal victory. UC outshot the visitors 30-21 in the final 40 minutes of play.
Pioneer freshman goalie
Sean Dickson (Millbrae, CA/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL-Premier)) stopped 32 shots in his first collegiate start. Kevin Entmaa earned his second victory of the weekend in net for the Bulldogs as he posted 35 saves.
The Bulldogs (2-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 23:01 of the contest behind two power-play goals and one short-handed tally. Corry Dunn got Adrian going with a power-play goal 11:27 into the first period. Matt McNair put the visitors up 2-0 with a short-handed goal late in the first period. Adrian went up 3-0 early in the second period with what proved to be the game-winner when Jared Domin netted his second goal of the weekend 3:01 into the second.
