Men's Soccer Opens Three-Game Home Stand Against Sage

UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team will play The Sage Colleges at home this Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup. This game will be the first of three consecutive home contests for UC, and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers are 4-6-1 (1-2 Empire 8) this season. They last played against Hamilton College on Wednesday, losing 1-0 in a hard fought match. The Pioneers managed to shoot the ball seven times, but failed to score throughout the game. Sophomore Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) had five saves in the contest, as UC's chance for a third consecutive win was spoiled.

Offensive Leaders: Senior Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton) is currently the Pioneers' leading goal scorer with four and ranks in the top ten in the Empire 8 Conference. Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) leads the team with three assists on the year and is also top ten in the conference. Sophomore Patrick Hynes (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem) is second on the squad with two goals so far this season.

Guarding The Goal: Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township), who has 15 saves in just three games, will look to build upon his 2-1 mark as a starter this season against Sage. Junior Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) is currently leading the team with 48 saves and is ranked second in the Empire 8.

Scouting Sage: The Gators are currently 3-5-1 (1-1-1 Empire 8) this season. They are coming off a 1-0 loss to St. John Fisher last Saturday. Sage is currently led by Jeaneste Pierre and River Seybolt with three goals each, while both are top ten in the E8 in scoring.

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will face Middlebury College at home on Monday for the second of three straight home games. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
