Volleyball Drops Pair at E8 Pod

HOBOKEN, NJ- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday as it fell to Houghton College 3-1 and Stevens Institute of Technology 3-0 in Empire 8 Conference action.
 
Utica 1, Houghton 3- Game One Final
After falling into a 2-0 hole, Utica battled back to take the third set 25-19, but the Highlanders responded with a 25-11 win in set four to earn the 3-1 victory.   Senior Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led Utica with nine kills, while Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) and Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) combined for 13 kills.
 
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) aided the offense with 20 assists, while Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the defense with 17 digs.  Two other players recorded 10 or more digs, as Romaguera had 13, and Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) had 10.
 
Utica 0, Stevens 3- Game Two Final
The Ducks controlled the game form the opening serve as they remained unbeaten in E8 play (5-0) and improved to 17-4 overall. 
 
Herringshaw led UC with four kills.  She now has sole possession of fourth place on the College's all-time list with 741 kills in her career.  Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) had three kills and Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) chipped in with one. 
 
Voss and Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) combined for nine assists on the day and Voss led the team with nine digs. 
 
The Pioneers will travel to Cambridge, MA next weekend for the MIT Invitational. UC will face Hunter College on Friday at 6 p.m. and cap off the weekend on Saturday against MIT (10:30 a.m.) and Kings College (1 p.m.).
