Men's Soccer at Home Monday Against Middlebury

Utica, NY -- The Utica College men's soccer team will play host to Middlebury College on Monday for a step outside of conference competition. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 4:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers fell to Sage at home over the weekend in an Empire 8 matchup, 2-1. Tucker Marvin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored the lone goal for UC, with the assist coming from teammate Nicolas Diaz (Commack, NY/Commack). Goalkeeper Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) made five saves throughout the contest, as Utica's record dropped to 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in E8 play.

Season Winding Down: There are only six regular season games remaining on the 2018 schedule for the team, including Monday's meeting with Middlebury. Three of the games left to play are Empire 8 matchups, as the Pioneers will need to win out in conference play for a legitimate shot to make the conference tournament. The last match of the regular season will be at Stevens on October 27th.

Statistical Leaders: Senior Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton) is still the team's leading scorer, with four goals and one assist so far this year. Tucker Marvin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Patrick Hynes (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem) are tied for second scoring, as both have registered two goals this season. Junior Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) leads UC with a total of three assists, while Nicolas Diaz (Commack, NY/Commack) has two assists. Goalkeeper Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) has recorded 53 saves in net at this point in the year.

Scouting Middlebury: Middlebury College is currently 4-2-3 overall and 2-2-2 in NESCAC competition heading into Monday's matchup. The Panthers have not lost in four games, and most recently tied the #3 nationally ranked Tufts University, 1-1. Ben Potter and Henry Wilhelm are tied for first on the team with three goals apiece.

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will hit the road this Saturday to meet up with E8 opponent, Elmira College. This crucial conference battle is set to begin at 3 p.m.
