WHITESTOWN, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team scored five unanswered goals as it downed visiting Chatham University 6-1 in UCHC Conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Utica improves to 6-0 (4-0 UCHC) to start the season. This marks just the second time in program history that the Pioneers have won their first six games and the first time since the 2001-2002 season. UC will look to carry its momentum into a UCHC series at Neumann next weekend. Friday's faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. while Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m.

Utica opened the scoring at 7:23 as freshman
Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) put in a rebound for her fourth of the year. Seniors
Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) and
Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) assisted on the go-ahead tally.

Just 2:43 later, the Cougars responded as Jillian Rowland ripped a shot from the point that bounced off traffic in front and ended up in the back of the net for her first of the year. Kerry Carr assisted on the equalizer.

The Pioneers regained the lead at 16:40 of the first when senior
Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) put in her fourth of the year, assisted by
Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) and
Kyra Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Holderness).

The score remained the same until Utica was able to pull away in the third period. The Pioneers came out flying in the final frame and were quickly rewarded as
Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) put in her third of the season just 25 seconds into the period, assisted by Dohner and Santullo.

UC added another tally at 2:26 as Haab cleaned up a rebound in front for her third of the year.Â

Utica extended its lead at 11:18 when
Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) put in her third of the season. Junior
Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) created a turnover in the neutral zone that Hirschy picked up and rifled into the top right corner. Haab capped off the scoring with 4:26 remaining as she put in her second of the day off assists from Borsoi and Dion.

Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) had 10 saves to pick up her fourth win of the year, while Katy Reed had 40 saves for the Cougars.
