UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team suffered a 59-43 defeat at the hands of local rival, Hamilton College in non-conference action Monday evening. Freshman
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) tallied her second double-double of the season in the loss.
The visitors came out flying in the first quarter as they outscored Utica 18-6 through the first 10 minutes of action. UC picked up its play over the next 30 minutes, but the Hamilton lead was insurmountable as the Pioneers were handed their second loss of the season (2-2). The Continentals meanwhile improve to 4-0.
Przygoda led all players with 15 points and she also grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the way for UC. The freshman forward has now averaged a double-double through the first four games of her collegiate career.
Junior
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) finished with six points and six boards, while
Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) and
Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancey Memorial) combined for 10 points off the bench.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) and
Marissa Woods (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) each chipped in with four points, followed by
Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro),
Cortlynn Jepsen (Hudson, NY/Hudson), and
Madison O'Hagan (Seaford, NY/Seaford).
Marie Steiner led the Continentals with 14 points, while Elizabeth Arnold chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Utica will look to rebound on Thursday as it welcomes MCLA to the Clark Athletic Center. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. followed by a special ceremony to dedicate the court to Doris and Walter Miga.
