Women's Hockey Completes Sweep of Lebanon Valley

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team used three goals in the first period and added four more in the final frame to come away with a 7-0 win over visiting Lebanon Valley on Sunday.  Six different players scored in the win.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 12-9-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the UCHC, moving them into fifth place in the conference standings.  Utica, which has clinched a spot in the post season for the 16th time in the program's 17-year history, will wrap up the regular season next weekend as it hosts Kings College.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Senior Jennifer Arts (Lakeside, Ontario/London Devilettes) opened the scoring at 5:11 of the first period as she buried a loose puck in front for her fourth of the year.  Just 12 seconds later, the Pioneers struck again, this time off the stick of Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos), as she put in a rebound for her fifth of the season.  Smith added another tally at 17:35 off a great centering feed from Colby Begis (Little Elm, TX/Dallas Stars) to extend the Utica lead.

The Pioneers opened the flood gates with four goals in the third period to stretch their unbeaten streak to six games.  Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) netted her third of the weekend as she skated through three Lebanon Valley defenders and rifled a shot into the back of the net.  Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University), Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School), and Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) also scored in the third period to cap off the victory.

Sophomore Kayla Rios (Dexter, NY/Northern Cyclones) picked up the shutout in her first career start, while Jillian Moffat and Victoria Lahey combined for 73 saves in the loss.
