Men's Hockey Cruises to Win Over Chatham

UTICA, NY- The nationally ranked No. 8 Utica College men's hockey team used five third period goals to down visiting Chatham University 8-0 in UCHC Conference action Saturday night. 
 
With the win, Utica improves to 15-4-1 overall (8-3 UCHC) and 10-1-1 at home.  The Pioneers are also just two points back of first place in the conference standings with a big showdown against UCHC front-runner Lebanon Valley on Sunday.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
After a scoreless first period, Utica was able to get on the board just 93 seconds into the second period as Kyle Lajeunesse (South Berwick, ME/New Hampshire (EHL)) found the back of the net for his third of the year.  Tyler Pietrowski (Curtice, OH/Odessa Jackalopes (NAHL)) and Jacob Gerson (Colorado Springs, CO/Hampton Roads (USPHL)) assisted on the play.  Just 1:01 later, Kevin Valenti (Queensbury, NY/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) put in a rebound off a shot by Dalton Carter (Toledo, OH/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) for his sixth of the season.  Anthony McVeigh (Kemptville, Ontario/Carleton Place (CCHL)) also assisted on the power play tally.
 
The Pioneers added an insurance goal by Gregg Burmaster (Clinton, NY/Colorado College (NCHC)) at 9:26 as he buried a feed from Valenti and Lajeunesse.
 
Utica broke the game open in the third period starting with a short-handed tally by Roman Ammirato (Williamstown, NJ/Union College (ECAC)) at 1:16 into the third.  McVeigh and Carter registered assist's on Ammirato's team-leading 17th of the year.  UC cashed in on a 5-on-3 power play with goals by Justin Derlago (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Selkirk (MJHL)) and Conor Landrigan (New Tripoli, PA/Binghamton Jr. Sens (NAHL)) just 1:14 apart midway through the period. 
 
Gerson put in a rebound for his fifth of the year at 13:59 and Landrigan netted his second of the night with just one second remaining to cap off the evening. 
 
Henry Dill (Columbus, OH/UMASS (Hockey East)) made nine saves in the win, while his counterpart, Morgan Hudson finished with 42 saves.
