Matthew Yozzo (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) hit a pinch hit walk-off RBI double to cap a three run bottom of the seventh inning as the Utica College baseball rallied for a 4-3 victory over Curry College in game one of a double header on day two at the Russ Matt Invitational on Monday. Yozzo's game-winning hit was set up by
Matthew Fitzgerald (Clinton, NY/Notre Dame), who hit a pinch hit double -- scoring two -- in the seventh inning to tie the score at 3-3.
The Pioneers dropped game two against Curry by the score of 11-1 and their record now stands at 4-1 headed into a double header against The College of New Jersey on Tuesday (2:30 p.m.).
Quinlan finished the day going 4-for-7 with one home run, one double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Yozzo went 2-for-4 on the day, while Fitzgerald finished the day going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Utica 4, Curry 3 – Game One
In game one the Pioneers fell into a 3-0 hole by the third inning behind a home run from Justin Cage in the first and a two run double by John Sapia in the third.
Senior pitcher
Justin Shabman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Kennedy Catholic) came on in relief of starter
Alex Rocci (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) in the top of the fourth inning and shut down the Colonels. Shabman pitched four innings and allowed just one hit as he picked up the victory on the mound.
Quinlan got the Pioneer offense going in the fifth inning when he hit a solo home run, his second of the season, to cut Utica's deficit to 3-1.
Quinlan got the Pioneers' seventh inning rally started as well with a base hit to left field.
Adam Nell (Vernon, NY/VVS) followed with a single through the left side.
Jacob Gaboriault (Colchester, VT/Essex) then laid down a sac bunt to advance Quinlan and
Christopher Ramsundar (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady), who came on to pinch run for Nell. Fitzgerald then pinch hit for
Ben Julian (Wynantskill, NY/Troy) and came up big in the clutch as he ripped a two RBI double to left field, scoring Quinlan and Ramsundar, to knot the score at 3-3. Curry then intentionally walked

Christian Tiffin (Sherrill, NY/VVS). Yozzo came up big with a walk off RBI double to center field to cap the Pioneers' three run game-winning seventh inning.
Curry 11, Utica 1 - Game Two
The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two, but the Colonels exploded with eight runs in the fourth inning and never looked back as they cruised to an 11-1 victory in the night cap.
Quinlan got the Pioneers on the board in the first inning with an RBI double, scoring
Jake Ryan (Kingston, NY/Kingston), to account for the lone Utica run in game two.
Curry's eight run fourth featured a two RBI homer, a two RBI double and a two RBI triple to give the Colonels a commanding 8-1 advantage. Curry went on to tack on three more insurance runs in the sixth inning to pick up the 10 run victory.
