Women's Lacrosse Looks to Keep Momentum Going Against Morrisville

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team returns to action Wednesday as it travels to nearby Morrisville State for a non-conference match up.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 2-0 week at the US Lacrosse Headquarters where they defeated Albright College 17-5 and Southern Vermont 19-0… Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro) and Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) led the way for the Pioneers on Tuesday with four goals each, followed by Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin), and Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS), who each had two goals... Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) also registered one goal against Albright, while Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) made nine saves in the win… 13 different players scored in Utica's win over Southern Vermont and freshmen Brianna Colley (Staten Island, NY/Petrides), Hannah Nordstrom (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven), and Brittany Nowak (Eden, NY/Eden), as well as sophomores Kaleigh Dwyer (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls), Kristi Pearage (Bear Creek Township, PA/James M. Coughlin), Maddie Behan (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville Dewitt), and Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) each scored their first goals as Pioneers.
 
ROAD WARRIORS: Utica is 3-0 away from Gaetano Stadium so far this year, outscoring its opponents 50-10 over the three games… UC has scored at least 14 goals in each of its road games, while allowing no more than five goals against in each game. 
 
FRESHMEN FITTING IN: Freshmen Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro), and Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) have started all five games so far for the Pioneers… Wolff is tied for the team-lead with 10 points and she leads the squad with six assists… Husnay is tied for third on the team with nine points (six goals, three assists)… Scaccia has helped the Utica defense, which ranks second in the Empire 8 with an 8.00 goals against average… She has also caused three turnovers and picked up nine ground balls. 
 
EIGHT IS GREAT: Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) are tied for the team lead with eight goals each…  Scarpinella has two assists, while Miller and Capriglione each have one helper… Eight goals in a season is a new career-best for Capriglione.
 
HELPING OUT: Apart from Husnay, Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) and Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) each have six goals and two assists, while Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) is right behind them with five goals and one assist of her own. 
 
VANDERMEULEN SNAGS E8 HONORS: Sophomore goalie Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) was named the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week on Monday for the second time this season… Vandermeulen made nine saves and allowed just five goals in Utica's 17-5 win over Albright last week… She currently ranks second in the conference in goals against average (10.00), saves per game average (11.25) and save percentage (.560.).
 
SCOUTING MORRISVILLE: The Mustangs are 0-5 to start the season and they are coming off a 12-11 loss to Potsdam on Saturday… Senior Gianna Branca leads the team with 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) and junior Courtney Cavalier has 12 goals to her credit. 
 
AGAINST THE MUSTANGS: Utica is 3-0 against Morrisville in the last five years… Last year, the Pioneers came away with a 16-7 victory over the Mustangs… Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led Utica with four goals, while Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) had three goals and one assist… Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) each had one goal. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers remain on the road on Saturday as they travel to Oswego State… Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
