UTICA, NY – The Utica College Softball team will travel to Saratoga Springs, NY on Sunday as it faces Skidmore College in a non-conference double header scheduled to begin at 1p.m.
FLORIDA RECAP: Last time on the diamond the Pioneers were in Florida for the annual Sunkissed Games where they went 4-6 and came up short in their last three games… UC currently has a team batting average of .332 with 93 hits and seven total home runs… Last week the Pioneers had a season high of 15 runs scored against Beloit College (03/15/18).
STRANSKY NAMED E8 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday after she hit five home runs, including two grand slams, and totaled 18 RBIs in eight games last week… Stransky also finished the week going 14-for-28 at the dish… She currently leads the conference in home runs, RBIs, and slugging percentage (1.097).
CACCAMO PICKS UP PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS: Freshman
Gabby Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) was named the Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week on Monday after she went 2-2 last week with one save... Throughout the week she recorded a 3.72 ERA and struck out five batters... Against Wisconsin Lutheran, Caccamo pitched seven innings striking out three while only giving up two runs on five hits as she led the Pioneers 3-2 over the Warriors.
LEADING THE WAY: Junior
Hayley Fredericks (Suffern, NY/Suffern) leads the team with a .500 batting average (11-for-22)… She also has two home runs and she ranks second on the squad with seven RBIs.
HELPING OUT: Junior
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) is responsible for 11 runs, 16 hits and six RBIs on the season and is third on the team with a .485 batting average… With 33 at bats, sophomore
Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) has a slugging percentage of .424 and she is tied for third on the team with 11 hits.
SCOUTING SKIDMORE: The Thoroughbreds are currently 4-6 on the season after the conclusion of the Sunkissed Games... Skidmore currently has a team batting average of .326 and a slugging percentage of .457… Freshman Hannah Paolucci leads the team with a .433 batting average, while senior Jill Strileckis is right behind her with a .400 average and a team-high two home runs.
AGAINST THE THOROUGHBREDS: Dating back to 2015, the Pioneers are 5-2 against Skidmore College and are scoring an average of 9.3 runs per game in that seven game span… Last year, UC took the first game 7-6 in nine innings before dropping the second game of the doubleheader 14-5…
Dominique Soto (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) was 6-for-9 on the day with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Pioneers.
