Women's Lacrosse Set for Big Tilt at Oswego

UTICA, NY — The 4-2 Utica College women's lacrosse team will look to keep its winning streak going Saturday as the Pioneers take on the Lakers of Oswego State. Game start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Oswego.
 
Last Time Out: Utica traveled to Morrisville State College on Wednesday where it was victorious in a 21-8 decision… UC was in the driver's seat the entire contest, scoring eight goals in the first half while holding the Mustangs to just three... Sophomore midfielder Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) led the way with six points on five goals and one assist... Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) erupted for a career-high five goals of her own while Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro) finished with two goals and three assists... Senior attack Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored four goals on four shots attempts... Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) and Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) both chipped in two goals in the win... The winning goalie was Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central), who had 12 saves on the night.
 
Between The Pipes: Empire 8 Conference Goalie of the Week, Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) has had a hot start to her sophomore campaign... She has played a team high 266:19 minutes between the pipes and has a record of 3-2 this year... She leads all goalies with 57 saves thus far... Amongst goalies with at least two full games played, She currently ranks second in the conference in goals against average (9.69), saves per game (11.40), and save percentage (.570.)
 
No Freshman Jitters: First year attackers Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro) have been on a tear through their first six collegiate outings... She currently has tallied nine goals and six assists for a team-high 15 points... Husnay is right behind her with 14 points (eight goals, six assists)… They are both tied for eighth in the conference with 1.00 assists per game. 
 
Balanced Attack: The Pioneers have nine players who have scored five or more goals this season, seven of which have double digit points through six games... Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) leads the team with 12 goals on the year while Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) has 10 goals this season along with two assists... Wolff, Husnay, Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford), Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin), Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) each have five or more goals thus far.
 
Scouting Oswego: The Lakers are 3-2 overall in the young season... They coming off a 13-6 loss against nationally ranked No. 9 York College last Saturday... Oswego is led by junior attack Teresa Shattuck, who has 11 goals and 22 assists for a total of 33 points... The junior currently ranks 20th nationally in points per game and she is first in assists per game with an average of 4.4.
 
Against the Lakers: Utica is 1-3 against Oswego in the last five years… The last meeting between the two teams was March 22, 2016, when Oswego came away with a 13-5 win.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return home to open up E8 play on Wednesday March 28 as the host the Gators of The Sage Colleges... Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
