SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The Utica College softball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game two and never looked back as it salvaged a split against host Skidmore College on Sunday. The Pioneers dropped the first game 9-4 before rebounding with a 12-4 run-rule victory in six innings in game two.
Utica 4, Skidmore 9- Game One Final
Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the top of the second, senior Domonique Soto hit a two-run blast over the centerfield fence to bring the Pioneers within one. Utica tacked on another run in the third off of an RBI double by
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich), but the Thoroughbreds scored six straight runs to take a 9-3 lead into the sixth inning.
Utica was able to plate one run in the sixth, but was unable to rally as Skidmore held on for the win.
Soto finished 2-for-3 for the Pioneers, while sophomore
Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) led UC going 3-for-3 at the dish.
Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School) was 2-for-4 in the loss, and Whitehouse,
Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa),
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place), and
Hayley Fredericks (Suffern, NY/Suffern) also had hits.

Gabby Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) each saw action in the circle, with Caccamo shouldering the loss.
Utica 12, Skidmore 4 (6 innings)- Game Two Final
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings and added five more scores over the next two frames before the home team was finally able to get on the board. Leading 9-4 headed into the sixth inning, Utica kept up the pressure by plating three runs and not allowing another score by the Thoroughbreds to come away with the run-rule victory.
Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) was 3-for-4 with a game-high five RBIs to lead the way for Utica.
Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) was 3-for-3 with four runs scored to cap off her day at the plate going a perfect 5-for-5 with three walks over the doubleheader.
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South),
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich),
Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School),
Madison Judge (Albany, NY/Colonie), and
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) were each 2-for-4, while
Dominique Soto (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) was 2-for-5, and
Madison Akots (Wynantskill, NY/Emma Willard School) was 1-for-3.
Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) picked up her first win of the season as she allowed just two earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.
The Pioneers (5-7) return to action Wednesday as they travel to Ithaca College. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
