UTICA, NY – Utica senior
Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) netted three of his team-high four goals in the fourth quarter as the Pioneers rallied with six goals in the final 15 minutes but it was not enough to defeat host Oswego State as the Lakers earned a 15-7 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Desveaux has now moved into the top 10 on the College's all-time scoring with 104 career points, surpassing 2017 graduate
Brickman House (Oneida, WI/Pulaski), who capped his career with 101 points.
Oswego jumped out to an 11-1 first half lead and pushed its advantage to 14-1 before the Pioneers outscored the home team 6-1 in the final quarter of action. Utica, winners of three of its last five games, saw its record move to 3-4 overall on the season. Utica remains at 1-0 in Empire 8 play as the Pioneers head into a key conference matchup back at home on Saturday against Elmira College (1 p.m.).
Oswego improved to 6-1 on the season as the Lakers were led by a four goal effort from Bobby Emerson.
John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) and
Nick Yelich (Lancaster, NY/Depew) each chipped in with one goal and one assist, while
Jake Bratek (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) added one goal of his own. Freshman
Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) stood out once again with two assists, and he now has five goals and four assists this season to lead all UC freshman.
Tom Zegarelli (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) totaled six ground balls for the Pioneer defense, while
Nick Alexander (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) added two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Hunter LaPlace (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) finished the day with three ground balls as well for the Pioneers.

Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) stopped eight shots in 30 minutes of work, while freshman
Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) came on in relief and added four second half saves for the Pioneers.
Oswego jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half to take quick command of the contest. Desveaux then netted a man-up goal to account for the first Pioneer tally of the day with 1:12 left in the first half of play.
The Lakers put the game out of reach with three goals in the third quarter to take a 14-1 advantage headed into the fourth and final quarter. The Pioneers put the pressure on the Lakers with the first six goals of the second half, but the comeback bid fell short as the home team score with less than a minute to go and earned the eight goal victory.
Kevin O'Donnell stopped four shots in net for the Lakers, while Brody Carter came on in the fourth quarter and finished with two saves.
Jimmy Vienneau (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) won 11-of-23 face-offs for the Pioneers.
