Women's Lacrosse Falls to Skidmore

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday evening as it fell to visiting Skidmore College 18-5 in non-conference action.  Five different players scored for Utica.
 
The score was 1-1 just five minutes into play, before the Thoroughbreds rattled off seven straight goals and went on to take a 13-3 lead into halftime.  Utica made some adjustments in the second half as Skidmore outscored UC just 5-2 over the final 30 minutes.
 
Senior Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year, while freshman Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) recorded her team-best fifth assist on Miller's tally.  Miller, Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS), and Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) each had one goal and one assist on the day.  Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) and Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) also scored for Utica.
 
Scarpinella led the Pioneers with five draw controls, while Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) each had two draw controls to their credit.  Scarpinella also tied for the team-lead in ground balls (three) and caused turnovers (two).  Freshman Stephanie Husnay (Canastota, NY/Whitesboro), meanwhile, had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
 
Goalies Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) and Abigail Rogan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) combined for 14 saves in the loss, while Caroline Kenion made six saves in the win.
 
The Pioneers look to rebound Saturday as they host Clarkson University.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
