Utica, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team has two road matches on the docket for this upcoming weekend. The Pioneers will head out to Alfred University for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and then they are to finish up the weekend at 3 p.m. on Sunday against Hamilton.
Last Time Out: UC dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-3 against Empire 8 opponents after being swept, 9-0, by St. John Fisher over the weekend.
Maki Medici (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) lost 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth singles slot and was joined by teammate
Austyn Diller (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) in the first doubles heat, resulting in an 8-1 loss.
Scouting Alfred: The Saxons from Alfred University are heading into the weekend with a record of 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Empire 8 competition. The team fell, 8-1, against Penn State Behrend in its last match. Alfred earned its lone match point in second doubles, as the duo of
Kevin Vo (Utica, NY/Proctor)lz and Ryan Brown won their heat, 8-4. The Saxons lost both of their in-conference matchups against Stevens and Houghton by way of a 9-0 sweep. They face Oneonta on Friday before hosting UC on Saturday for some E8 action.
Scouting Hamilton: Hamilton is 2-8 overall so far this season after recently falling to nationally ranked No. 11 Wesleyan University, 8-1, the last time out. Tim Derby won the sole match point for the Continentals, winning the fourth singles heat in three sets 7-6, 3-6, and 11-9. Prior to the loss Hamilton had won two consecutive matches in a row, defeating both Brooklyn College and St. Lawrence University by a score of 9-0.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return home on April 18th for the first of three straight home matches. UC will play host to Hartwick College that Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
