Samborin Throws No-Hitter in Sweep Over SUNY Poly

CLINTON, NY- The Utica College softball team picked up its first sweep of the season as it downed local rival SUNY Poly 8-5 and 12-0 in non-conference action Friday afternoon.  Sophomore Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) picked up a no-hitter in game two's run-rule victory to lead the way for Utica.
 
The Pioneers improve to 8-14 overall and will look to carry their momentum into a big Empire 8 Conference match up against Elmira College on Wednesday.  Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Utica's Greenman Field. 
 
Utica 8, SUNY Poly 5- Game One Final
The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings thanks to RBIs by Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack), Madison Judge (Albany, NY/Colonie), and Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic).  The Wildcats got back into it with three runs in the fourth, but Utica responded with four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to pick up the win.
 
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was 3-for-4 and Madison Akots (Wynantskill, NY/Emma Willard School) was 2-for-2 with the pair combining for four RBIs and two runs scored.  Johndrow and Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) were each 2-for-3 while Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School) was 2-for-4.  Miller, Judge, and Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) each had one hit in the win.
 
Freshman Gabby Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) had a season-high six strikeouts and allowed eight hits in the complete-game win. 
 
Utica 12, SUNY Poly 0 (5 Innings)- Game Two Final
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added 10 more runs over the final two innings to earn the run-rule victory.  Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) was lights out in the circle as she struck out three and only had two base-runners over five innings in her first career no-hitter. 
 
Madison Judge (Albany, NY/Colonie) led the Pioneers at the plate as she was 3-for-3 in game two with two RBIs and three runs scored.  Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was 2-for-3 with an inside the park home run and Sara Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) hit a three-run shot over the left field fence for her first career home run.
 
Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack), Dominique Soto (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place), Madison Akots (Wynantskill, NY/Emma Willard School), Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School), and Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) each had one hit in the win.  Miller and Aronin also added one steal each.
