UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team got back on track Saturday as it downed visiting Houghton College 19-6 in Empire 8 Conference action. 10 different players scored in the win for Utica.
With the victory, UC (7-5, 3-2 Empire 8) moves into a tie with Hartwick College for fourth place in the Empire 8 standings. The Pioneers will host the Hawks in a crucial E8 match up on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Utica wasted little time getting things going as the Pioneers scored their first goal just 35 seconds into the game. UC netted three more goals in a span of 1:41 to take a 4-0 lead before Houghton was finally able to get on the scoreboard at 24:21 of the first half. The Pioneers then rattled off nine straight to take a commanding 13-1 lead into halftime.
One of the highlights of the first half came on the Pioneers' third goal of the day as senior
Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) found the back of the net for her 100
th career goal. Miller is now just the ninth player in program history to score 100 goals in her career. She finished with three goals on the day and needs just one more to move into a tie for seventh on the all-time list with 103 career goals.
Freshman
Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted two goals and added three assists to extend her scoring streak to 10 games. Her five points led the Pioneers in scoring for the day.
Junior
Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) finished with a team-high four goals and sophomore
Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) had two goals and two assists.
Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and
Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) each had two goals, and
Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford),
Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford), and
Chelsea Bauld (Rochester, NY/Odyssey) each scored one.
Maddie Behan (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville Dewitt) chipped in with one assist to her credit.
Freshman
Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted her first collegiate goal and she also led the Pioneers with four ground balls on the day. Wolff and DuMont tied for the team-lead with three caused turnovers apiece, while Palmer and
Brittany Nowak (Eden, NY/Eden) each had two draw controls.
Amanda Lupo (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) picked up the win in net as she turned aside six shots and allowed just two goals against.
Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) and
Abigail Rogan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) also saw action in the crease.
