UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's softball team is back in action Wednesday as it travels to Empire 8 foe, Elmira College.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers are coming off a two-game series sweep over SUNY Poly where they outscored the Wildcats 20-8... Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) threw a no-hitter and recorded a season high three strikeouts in a 12-0 win over the Pioneers' cross-town rivals… Madison Judge (Albany, NY/Colonie) was 4-for-7 on the day with three RBIs and four runs scored to pace the Pioneers… Freshman Sara Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) hit her first career home run, and sophomore Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had an inside-the-park homer as well… Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs to lead the way in game one.
 
Leading The Way: Senior Sabrina Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) is responsible for 27 RBIs and holds a slugging percentage of .776%. She has a team-high 14 extra-base hits, including six home runs and eight doubles, both of which lead the team...  Junior Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) has a team-high .431 batting average and 17 runs scored… She is fifth on the team with a .458 slugging percentage and her 31 hits this season rank second in the E8.
 
On The Mound: Freshman Gabby Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) leads the Pioneers with 22 strikeouts, a 3.44 ERA, and four wins… Sophomore Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) picked up her first career no-hitter on Friday as she struck out three and only allowed two base runners in the 12-0 victory.
 
Scouting Elmira: Entering the week the Soaring Eagles currently hold a record of 3-4 overall and they are 1-3 in the E8... Last time in competition, Elmira split a double header against Houghton College winning the first game 8-4 and dropping the second 3-2… Maddy Johnson leads the squad with a .625 batting average and 17 total bases.
 
Against Elmira: Dating back to 2015 the Pioneers are 5-1 against the Soaring Eagles, averaging 8.5 runs per game… Last season UC split with Elmira, earning a 5-0 shutout win in game one before falling 6-5 in game two… Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) was 4-for-7 on the day to lead the Pioneers.
 
Next Time Out: UC will face Empire 8 opponent Houghton College in a double header Friday, April 20^th at 3:30 p.m.
