Utica, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team has a triple set of matches to compete in this weekend. The Pioneers will host Oswego on Friday (3:30 p.m.) and Houghton on Saturday (1 p.m.), before traveling to face Oswego again on the road Sunday (1 p.m.).
Last Time Out: UC got swept by Empire 8 opponent Hartwick, 9-0, in the team's last match.
Paul Litvak (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) and
Maki Medici (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) lost, 8-2, in the first doubles flight as each continued to lose their singles matchups.
Christian Carman (Westwood, NJ/Westwood) fell in third singles 6-2, 6-0, while teammate
Joshua Palmer (Southington, CT/Wilcox Technical) dropped his two sets 6-0, 6-0. The loss puts Utica's record at 0-5 overall and 0-5 within the conference heading into the weekend.
Season Winding Down: After the busy weekend ahead for UC the team will only have three more scheduled matches left on the calendar. On April 24th the Pioneers head to Sage for an Empire 8 contest. Utica then will close out conference play at Stevens on April 28th. Finally the season will come to a close at home against SUNY Delhi on April 29th.
Scouting Oswego: The Oswego State Lakers hold a record of 3-5 overall heading into Friday's matchup. After losing to St. John Fisher and Hartwick, both by a count of 6-3, the team is looking to prevent a three-match losing streak. The Lakers will get two chances to face Utica this weekend, playing at Utica on Friday and then back home on Sunday.
Scouting Houghton: The Highlanders are currently 5-4 overall and 2-1 in E8 competition. In its most recent match, Houghton took down the Cardinals from St. John Fisher, 8-1. After the win over St. John Fisher, the Highlanders earned their fifth win in the last six matches. The only loss in conference came by way of a 9-0 sweep against Stevens.
Looking Ahead: Following the weekend UC will head to Troy, NY on Tuesday, April 24th to battle the Gators from Sage in an E8 matchup. The event is set to commence at 4 p.m.
