Women's Lacrosse Faces Tough Test Against #24 St. John Fisher

UTICA, NY — The Utica College women's lacrosse team returns to Charles Gaetano Stadium on Tuesday as it hosts Empire 8 Conference foe, St. John Fisher College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
 
Current Record: The Pioneers currently hold an overall record of 6-3 and they are 2-0 in conference play.
 
Last Time Out: On Saturday, the Pioneers defeated the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College by a score of 19-4... Utica jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, ending the half up 14-3... Sophomore midfielder Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) led UC with four goals and one assist... Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) added three goals on four shots while Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin), Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Brianna Colley (Staten Island, NY/Petrides) each contributed with two goals of their own in the victory... Sophomore Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) got the win between the pipes, snagging three saves on the afternoon to move her record to 5-3 this season.
 
Fire at Will: The Pioneers are first in the E8 with 14.56 goals per game... They also have fired 338 shots this season averaging 37.56 per game to lead the conference… In each of their six wins they scored 14 or more goals, in their three losses the Pioneers scored less than 10.
 
Leading the Way: Freshman Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) leads the team in assists (11) and points (27)… She has a seven game scoring streak in which she has totaled 26 points (15 goals, 11 assists)… Senior Brooke Miller (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) has a team-high 19 goals and she is second on the squad in scoring with 21 points… Sophomore transfer Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) and freshman Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) are tied for third on the team with 20 points each.
  
Defensive Nightmare: With career highs in goals (15), assists (two), points (17), caused turnovers (18), and draw controls (27), Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) continues to cause havoc for opposing teams... She leads the Empire 8 in caused turnover per game (2.00) and she is in the top three in draw controls per game (5.00).
  
Scouting The Cardinals: St. John Fisher is currently ranked No. 24 it's the most recent IWLCA national poll after starting the season 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the E8… In its last five wins Fisher has put up at least 16 goals... The Cardinals are coming off a 11-4 loss to No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology over the weekend... Leading the Cardinals are seniors Claire Bollin and Kelsie Schindler who each have 11 goals and seven assists for a total of 18 points on the year... Bollin and Schindler rank seventh and tenth in the conference in assists per game, respectively.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will take the long trip to Hoboken, New Jersey on Saturday to take on the No. 20 Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
