UTICA, NY– The Utica College volleyball team will head to Oswego, NY to play three games in the Oswego State Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers are scheduled to face SUNY Canton on Friday (6 p.m.) and on Saturday they will take on St. Lawrence University (11 a.m.) and D'Youville College (1 p.m.).
Last Time Out: UC is coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 loss against SUNY-Delhi… The Pioneers led two sets to zero, but Delhi was able to battle back to take the next three sets… Senior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with 14 kills and five blocks…
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had an outstanding performance with a season-high 35 digs... Freshmen
Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) led the team with 22 assists in the game.
Controlling the Net: The Pioneers have six players with double-digit kills... Herringshaw leads the team with 58 kills, followed by sophomores
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) (35) and
Megan Rice (Leverett, MA/Amherst Regional) (25), senior
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) (17), freshman
Kurstan Martin (Owego, NY/Tioga) (16) and junior
Lindsey Hannel (Victor, NY/Victor) (11). Herringshaw is also ranked tenth in the Empire 8 conference for kills.
Guarding the Court: Faroni currently leads the Pioneers and ranks ninth in the Empire 8 with 72 digs... She is followed by Romaguera with 46 digs this season... Herringshaw currently leads the team with 14 blocks, followed by Romaguera (six) as well.
Scouting SUNY Canton: The Kangaroos are currently 6-1 in the season... They are coming off a 3-2 win over Hartwick College last Saturday... Juniors Marissa Ixtlahuac and Melissa McMaster currently lead the Kangaroos with 62 kills each... The Pioneers lost 3-0 to the Kangaroos earlier this season (Sep 1).
Scouting St. Lawrence University: The Saints are currently 5-3 on the year... They are coming off a 3-0 win over Alfred University last Saturday... Freshmen Natalie Piper currently leads St. Lawrence with 79 kills this season... The last time the Pioneers met the Saints was back in 2013 when UC lost 3-1.
Scouting D'Youville College: The Spartans are 0-9 this season… They are coming off a 3-0 loss against Westminster (Pa.) last Saturday… Freshmen Carly Milleville currently leads the team with 39 kills... The Pioneers are 1-1 against the Spartans in the last five years... The last time both teams met was in 2015 when UC lost 3-2 against D'Youville.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will travel to Cobleskill, NY on Thursday as they face SUNY Cobleskill... Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
