Utica, NY -- The Utica College men's soccer team looks to get back on track Tuesday, as they host the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Studies for a quick break in conference play. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers faced St. John Fisher in their last contest, falling 1-0 against the E8 opponent. UC outshot the visiting Cardinals 17-12 and drew four more corner kick opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) made eight saves in the loss, as the team's record drops to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2 in Empire 8 competition.
Statistical Leaders: Senior Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton) is Utica's leading goal scorer with four goals and leads the team with nine total points. Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) is currently tops on the team, registering two assists on the year.
Side's Net: Goalkeeper Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) has put together a solid junior campaign so far this season, as he is leading the Empire 8 with 48 total saves. His saves per game average of 6.0 is also leading the pack within the conference. Side is also ranked third in the E8 with his shutout total of two.
Scouting ACPHS: The Panthers are sitting at a record of 3-2 overall and are 1-0 within the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC). The team is on a two-match winning streak, defeating HVIAC opponent SUNY ESF and, most recently, Pratt Institute. ACPHS beat Pratt, 7-0, over the weekend to make it two shutout wins in a row for the Panthers.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will hit the road this weekend, as they return to conference play with a matchup against Nazareth College. Saturday's game is scheduled to kick-off at 1 p.m.
