UTICA, NY – The Utica college volleyball team will head across town Friday for a non-conference match up against local rival, SUNY Poly. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out: After a slow start to the season, the Pioneers have won three of their last four matches, including most recently a 3-2 win over The Sage Colleges (25-7, 21-25, 23-25, 25-15, 15-13)... Senior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with 16 kills and three blocks...
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) totaled 32 digs, five aces, and five assists... Freshman
Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a game-high 19 assists and senior
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) chipped in with 17 as well.
Controlling the Offense: Herringshaw leads the team and ranks in the top ten in the Empire 8 Conference with 122 kills... Herringshaw currently has 707 kills in her career and she needs just 22 more to move into fourth place on the College's all-time list… Herringshaw is followed by sophomore
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout), who has 62 kills…
Megan Rice (Leverett, MA/Amherst Regional) and senior
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) rank third and fourth on the squad with 41 kills and 34 kills, respectively... Faroni currently leads the team with 118 assists and Prewasnicak is second with 83.
Defensive End: The Pioneers have three players with more than 100 digs on the year... Voss has 151 digs in 31 sets played
, Faroni has 113 and Romaguera has 104... Herringshaw leads the Pioneers and she is sixth in the Empire 8 in blocks with 31, followed by Stockbridge (17).
Scouting SUNY Poly: The Wildcats are currently 4-11 this season… They are coming off a 3-0 loss against Lancaster Bible last Saturday... Brittany Adams led the team with ten kills, Karlie King had eight and Amanda Batten had 16 digs in the game... King is currently top five in the NEAC Conference with 129 kills.
Against SUNY Poly: The Pioneers fell to the Wildcats 3-1 in both meetings between the two teams last season... Herringshaw and Voss combined for 20 kills in the first match, while Faroni had a double-double with 22 assists and 20 digs in the second match against SUNY Poly.
Looking Ahead: UC returns home on Wednesday to face St. John Fisher College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup... The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
