Field Hockey Set for Showdown at Cortland

UTICA, NY – The Utica College Field hockey team gets back in action Saturday as it heads to Cortland, NY to take on SUNY Cortland in a non-conference matchup. Game time is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers are coming off a 4-2 loss against nationally ranked No. 14 Hamilton College on Tuesday. Senior Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist, and sophomore Jenny Robbins (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) scored a goal as well… Utica put up a valiant effort, tying the game at 2-2 in the final minute before halftime, but the Continentals were able to pull away in the second half… Freshman Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made a career-high 19 saves in the loss.
 
Leading The Stats: Senior Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) leads the Empire 8 Conference with nine goals and she is second in the conference with 21 points… Meelan ranks fifth all-time with 34 career goals at UC… Meelan and Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) are tied for the team-lead with three assists so far. 
 
Defensive End: Freshman Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) leads the Pioneers and she is currently third in the Empire 8 with 64 saves… Jenny Robbins (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) is tied for third in the E8 with two defensive saves.
 
Scouting SUNY Cortland: The Red Dragons are currently 6-3 this season and they are in the "receiving votes" category of the latest NFHCA national poll... Cortland is coming off a 3-0 win over Oswego State on Wednesday... Cortland has three players with at least ten points on the season, led by senior Jess Gibaldi, who has 21 points (eight goals, five assists)… Goalie Kailynne Reinoehl has a 1.37 goals against average and three shutouts in nine games played. 
 
Against SUNY Cortland: Utica is 0-2 all-time against Cortland… Both losses came by just one goal… Cortland beat Utica 1-0 in 2016, and 2-1 in 2017… 2018 graduate Madison Williams (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) scored Utica's lone goal in last season's game, while Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) tallied the assist.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return home on Tuesday to face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for UC's Breast Cancer Awareness Game. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
