Utica, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team hosted Elmira College on Saturday for an Empire 8 matchup. The Soaring Eagles took the victory over UC, 7-2.
 
In the first singles heat, Julianne Pieros (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) took the match point with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Elmira's Sarah Hill. This marks the third singles win of the season for Pieros in her senior campaign.
 
Teammate Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) defeated Cheyanne Holwell in the fourth singles matchup, (6-2, 6-2) earning the second and final match point for the Pioneers. Pham earned her first singles win of the season.
 
Utica drops to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in Empire 8 competition, while Elmira goes to 1-9 overall and 1-5 within the conference.
 
The Pioneers are back to work in preparation for Wednesday's road match against SUNY Delhi. This non-conference competition is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
