UC Men’s Soccer to Face Clarkson University on the Road Wednesday

UTICA, NY (September 4, 2018) – The Utica College men's soccer team is in search of its second straight win when the Pioneers travel to Potsdam, NY to take on Clarkson University in a non-conference matchup Wednesday. This will be the team's first road game of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers (1-1) are coming off a 2-0 victory over D'Youville at home on Saturday. This marks their first victory of the season. Utica midfielder's Patrick Hynes (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem) and Julian Fonseca (Rocky Hill, CT/Bridgton) each scored one goal in the game. Fonseca also added one assist.

Finishing Strong: UC started the season with a 2-1 loss against SUNY Poly at home on Friday. The Pioneers managed to comeback with a 2-0 win over D'Youville the following day. UC has outshot both opponents in their first two games with a total of 29 shots and 16 shots on target.  

Finding The Back of the Net: After two games, Fonseca currently leads the Pioneers in scoring and assists. He scored a goal in each game and dished out an assist against D'Youville. Fonseca currently leads the Empire 8 Conference with an average of 4.50 shots per game and 2.50 points per game. Hynes is right behind Fonseca after scoring a goal against D'Youville as well.

Protecting the Net:  Junior goalie Jonathan Side (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) has started both games for the Pioneers this season. He currently has six saves over the course of 180:00 of action.  He posted his first shutout of the season after stopping two shots against D'Youville. Side now has six career clean sheets to his credit. 

Scouting Clarkson: The Golden Knights are 2-0 after their first two games. They are coming off a 3-0 victory against Heidelberg University on Saturday. Aidan Subra leads the way for Clarkson with six points on the season (two goals, two assists).

Against Clarkson: The last time the Pioneers faced Clarkson was last season. UC lost 2-1 in overtime at home. Junior Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) was the goal scorer for Utica in the loss.

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return home Saturday as they take on SUNY Cobleskill. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
