UTICA, NY (September 5, 2018) – The Utica College volleyball team will head to Rochester, NY to play three games in the University of Rochester Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers are scheduled to face University of Rochester on Friday (7 p.m.) and on Saturday they will take on Wells College (11 a.m.) and Medaille College (1 p.m).
Last Time Out: Utica is coming off three losses in the Plattsburgh Tournament last weekend… The Pioneers fell to Plymouth State University, Plattsburgh State and SUNY Canton all by 3-0 scores... Senior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led UC with 26 kills and seven blocks en route to being named ot the All-Tournament team... Sophomore
Megan Rice (Leverett, MA/Amherst Regional) had 17 kills and four service aces... Senior
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) posted 41 assists and 14 digs, while
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) had 37 digs in the tournament.
Controlling The Net: The Pioneers have four players with double digit kills after three games… Herringshaw currently leads the team with 26 kills, followed by Rice (17), sophomore
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) (13), and senior
Miranda Stockbridge (Waterville, NY/Waterville) (10)... Herringshaw is ranked eighth in the Empire 8 conference in hitting percentage (.270) and sixth in blocks (seven).
Dishing It Out: Faroni currently leads the team and ranks tenth in the Empire 8 with 41 assists. She is followed by freshman
Casey Sims (Schenectady, NY/Niskayuna) who has 16 assists after three games.
Scouting University of Rochester: The Yellow Jackets are currently 4-0 and they are coming off a 3-1 win over Houghton College last Saturday… U of R is led by senior Alara Kocak, who has a team-high 38 kills, and junior Beth Ghyzel, who has 125 assists... UC is 0-3 against the University of Rochester in the last five years... The last time the Pioneers met the Yellow Jackets was in 2016 and Rochester came away with a 3-0 win.
Scouting Wells College: The Express are currently 1-3 this season and they are coming off a 3-1 loss against Fredonia last Saturday… Sophomore Rachel Anderson currently leads the team with 42 kills... The Pioneers are 1-4 against the Express in the last five years... The last time they met was last year when Wells College came out with a 3-0 victory.
Scouting Medaille College: The Mavericks are 1-2 to start the season... They are coming of a 3-1 win over Chatham University on Saturday... Junior Melissa Postek currently leads the team with 30 kills and 21 digs... UC is 1-1 against Medaille College in the last five years... The Pioneers won 3-1 against the Mavericks in 2014, which was the last meeting between the two teams.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will return home on Monday to take on SUNY-Delhi in Utica's 2018 home opener… Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
