ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped both games on the final day of the University of Rochester Tournament Saturday. UC fell to Wells College and Medaille College both by 3-0 scores.
Utica 0, Wells 3- Game One Final
After jumping out to a 6-4 lead in the opening set, Utica was outscored 9-1 over the next ten points as Wells College took a 1-0 lead. Wells went on to take a commanding 22-11 lead in the second set and was able to close it out, despite a comeback effort by the Pioneers. Set three was all Wells as the Express jumped out to an 11-2 lead and ended up cruising to a 25-15 win in set three to earn the straight-set victory.
Senior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Pioneers with eight kills and she also added one block, while
Kurstan Martin (Owego, NY/Tioga) had a season-high five kills and also led the team with 10 digs.
Monique Fletcher (Waterford, CT/Norwich Free Academy) chipped in offensively with four kills of her own in the loss.
Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a team-high 12 assists and
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) combined for 13 digs.
Utica 0, Medaille 3- Game Two Final
This time it was
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) who led the offense as she totaled five kills, followed by
Kurstan Martin (Owego, NY/Tioga) (four), and
Megan Rice (Leverett, MA/Amherst Regional) (two).
Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a team-best six assists, while
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led the squad with 12 digs.
Mackenzie Good (Stafford, NY/Pavilion Central) also chipped in defensively with eight digs of her own and Martin tallied three digs in the loss. Martin, Prewasnicak, and Faroni each added one service ace.
For her efforts, senior
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was named to the All-Tournament team for the second weekend in a row.
The Pioneers will return to action Monday as they host SUNY Delhi in Utica's 2018 home opener. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
