Women's Basketball Returns Home for Busy Weekend

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's basketball team looks to get back on track as it returns home this weekend for a pair of Empire 8 Conference games.  Utica will take on St. John Fisher College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before facing Elmira College at noon on Saturday.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 92-52 loss at conference front runner, Hartwick College on Tuesday…  Freshman Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) led the Pioneers with 14 points and 11 rebounds, marking her 10th double-double of the season... Classmate Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) totaled a career-high 10 points in 16 minutes of work off the bench.
 
BALL HAWK: Freshman Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) currently ranks first in the country in offensive rebounds per game (6.0)… Przygoda is also eighth nationally and first in the Empire 8 with 13.4 rebounds per game… The 5-11 forward also leads the Pioneers with 14.1 points per game… She has recorded 10 double-doubles on the season. 
 
DOUBLE TROUBLE: The duo of Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) and Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) have put up nearly identical numbers this season… Johndrow is second on the squad with 10.9 points per game, while Conkin is averaging 10.7 points per game… Johndrow and Conkin are tied for third in the conference with 4.0 assists per game and they each have 20 steals to their credit.   
 
FRESHMEN STEPPING UP: Rookie players Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) have also made an impact for the Pioneers this season… DeMarco has started all 14 games and she ranks third on the team with 25 assists… She has also chipped in 4.3 points per game and 15 steals on the season… Sawyer has seen action in all 14 games as Utica's sixth player… She is averaging 3.9 points and she is coming off her best game of the season, where she scored 10 points in 16 minutes of action. 
 
SCOUTING ST. JOHN FISHER: The Cardinals are 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference after beating Elmira 58-50 on Tuesday… Sydney Masna is the team's leading scorer heading into the matchup against Utica, as she is averaging 10.4 points per game so far this season.
 
SCOUTING ELMIRA: The Soaring Eagles are 4-8 overall and 0-3 in E8 play after losing to Fisher on Tuesday... Lindsey Heaton leads Elmira and ranks sixth in the conference with 14.4 points per game.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will meet Hartwick College on Tuesday in the middle of a five game home streak. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
