Women's Hockey Falls at Naz

ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team suffered its first sweep of the season Wednesday afternoon as it fell to host Nazareth College 3-1 in UCHC Conference action.

With the loss, the Pioneers drop to 12-5 on the season (11-3 UCHC).  They look to rebound this weekend with a home-and-home series with William Smith College.  The teams will face off in Utica at 3 p.m. on Saturday before traveling to Geneva on Sunday to wrap up the series (4 p.m.)

The Golden Flyers got on the board with 1:54 remaining in the first period as Mikaila Rubin cleaned up a loose puck in front for her ninth of the year.  Hailey Redders and Lauren Jones assisted on the play.

Utica finally got on the scoreboard at 14:12 of the second period when Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) netted an unassisted tally for her ninth of the year to knot things up at one.  Naz regained the lead at 18:36 of the second as Hannah Tulchinsky put in a rebound to the right side of Utica goalie Ryann Stripp (Holland Patent, NY/Clinton Warriors) for her third of the season.  Hanna Barry and Nikolle Van Stralen assisted on the go-ahead tally.

Redders sealed the victory at 14:55 of the third period with a power play tally, her 11th of the year to give the home team a two-goal cushion.

Stripp finished with 29 saves for the Pioneers, while Naz's Adrianna Brehm made 30 saves in the win.
